Two Birthdays

Yesterday our pooch, Pippi, was 1 year old. Isn't she gorgeous? She is a darling dog, and happily, she seems to like living with us, enjoying her runs by the beach, kibble and lots of snuggles and scratches.

And Thomas is 7 today. He celebrated the big event by choosing the activities and menu for the day. His Grandma arrived this morning and joined us for a breakfast of sausages, bacon, potato bread, beans, toast and scrambled egg - marvellous.

I stayed at home with Duncan (working together on his Trainz game) while the others went shopping for his birthday present, a Wii Fit balance board.

That was set up and so far 3 of them have signed in and got started on the games. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it is great fun.

The next meal choice was chippy fish'n'chips, and after a bit more Wii play, I took the gymnasts to their class. Amazingly they claimed to be hungry again afterwards so I made some spaghetti carbonara, the birthday boy's favourite and of course, a cake.

We gathered for the cake ceremony. Duncan agreed to join in so long as no-one would sing the birthday song. He kept his hands near his ears at all times just in case though. He vacated the room before the song. Thomas looked perfectly happy with his lot. And I am happier than I can describe to have such a boy as my son.

Thanks! Thomas will have a party with his friends here on Saturday. I've been informed that he will be king of the house until that ends. Mercifully, he makes a fairly benign ruler.

A very belated Happy birthday to Thomas and Pippi! Have a wonderful time on Saturday!

Sharon, I am sure you wonder where the years have gone, don't blink or you will open your eyes to a young man of 17!

A huge happy birthday to two lovely birthday darlings.

We got a Wii Fit balance board too, it works wonders for co-ordination and motor skills.

Also, Amy can't listen to the birthday song. We never sing it. she's been like that since she was about 2. At school, she has to be taken out of the room before the children can sing it to eachother.

Fish n chips - yum yum!

Your Pippi is VERY cute. All the photos were wonderful - the effects of the candles and the expressions of the children - priceless.

I bet he is happier than he can describe that he has a Mum such as you.

@jazzygal, he enjoyed lording over us for a few days. Our dog's called after a Swedish book character, the world's strongest girl.

@Grannymar, the party was fantastic. I know what you mean about time racing by. He was only 2 when we moved over from England, I can't believe he's 7 already.

@Crystal Jigsaw, thanks! I've had a few goes on the balance board, my Wii fit age 1st time around was 55! I've improved it a bit though.

It's interesting that Amy dislikes the song too! Duncan just has everyone say happy birthday when it's his turn, and that's perfectly fine!

@AnnB, the cake was much yummier than the shop bought cake he wanted for the party.

@Ed, thanks a lot. I think he's going to have a good year.

@Hammie, I agree.

@Barbara, thanks, their dad is the good photographer.

@Manuel, do you mean Mini Schnauzers? They're not so bad, can be yappy at people coming in but get over it quickly. I think they're great wee dogs.

@Allie, aw thanks!

A very happy birthday to both Pippi and Thomas! Sounds like a great day was had by all!

The little man here has the very same problem with 'Happy Birthday' song - we were in TGI Fridays last week and had to make a run for the toilets when the group beside us got the cake to the table and the song started!! His family and school are aware but we're always on alert for the song! It had spring up all over the place!
