Shortlisted for Irish Blog Award

This is utterly smashing. The short list is out for Saturday's Irish Blog Awards and I'm still there in the specialist category. No too bad; about 50 or 60 blogs were nominated in this category, it being the one for all the blogs that don't really fit in anywhere else. This was whittled down to 20 or so in the long list and there are now only five finalists. I'm up with four exceptional blogs:

Best Specialist Blog - Sponsored by iQ Content

Each category has five finalists this year and those I've had a look at are excellent since each blog is judged by about 7 people on merit not popularity. Some of my own favourites didn't make it to the final stage though...boo hoo.

The awards party takes place in Cork on Saturday night. I'm flying down on Friday and meeting my sister who is coming over from London. She'll make sure I behave myself when I'm let loose with no children for a couple of nights in an unfamiliar city. There will be much merriment and unlike last year, I will actually know some others there. I'm looking forward to it.

Well done, I'd already read one or two of the shortlist but not all.

Best of luck and enjoy Cork.

I'm actually flying into Cork on friday and out on Sunday but I'll miss it completely in between.

Have to keep 'the families' happy with an occasional visit!

Shame, but you should have a good old night I think.

Ach that's a bummer. I'm sure someone will keep your glassware safe, 'cause from what I've read it's obvious what's going to happen!

Oh that's nice, set me up for heartbreak and rejection!

Sneaky...

Nah, it's the oddest of categories I think, a complete mixed bag, genuinely could be anyones.

Are you flying with Ryanair? Elly tells me that all their emails this week are asking for passports as ID.

The Finalist lists look really good this year. I am looking forward to a great big party.

Well done Sharon! See you at the Tea party.

@Xbox, it is a weird category! I think a more accurate category name would be "other" or "hodge podge". I mean, do you feel like more of a specialist than the cooks or music writers etc?!

@Grannymar, I have just returned from your place where I wished you well also. Thanks for the passport reminder. I'm flying direct from Belfast on Friday morning.
(Damn, now the paps will know and be waiting!)

Not at all, I think it's quite amusing to be nominated in a 'specialist' category when I blog about failing to be able to do one simple thing!

The irony of it all.

@Xbox, Ha! You're a master of writing about it though.

It's just silliness for the most part, but I do enjoy it and it keeps me busy until we get there, and the wife sane.

Hi! Sharon

Are you and Xbox calling me a hodge podge of a old bag!!! ;-) You're right! It is a strange category to be in but sure it's good to be there at all.

Congrats on your own well-deserved shortlisting. Grannymar tipped me off some time ago that you were 'one to read' and she was right! See you at the 'Ladies only' event prior to the big buzz!
